When meeting with Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs in Tallinn today, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said that Estonia supports Latvia’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). “Next week at the annual meeting of the OECD in Paris, we will discuss issues regarding the enlargement of the organisation. We hope that one outcome of this discussion will be presenting an accession invitation to Latvia,” said Paet.

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet also met in Tallinn with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, with whom he spoke about internet freedom. “Estonia feels it is essential to protect virtual freedom of speech and facilitate access to the internet,” said Paet.

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet stated that Estonia joined the Internet Freedom Coalition in 2011. Estonia feels that co-operating with Sweden is important for promoting the goals of the Internet Freedom Coalition. “Our common goal is to stand for internet freedom and cyber security,” said Paet. The foreign minister added that in addition to Sweden, Latvia, who recently joined the coalition, is also our partner in promoting internet freedom.

Foreign Minister Paet also noted at the meeting that Estonia will organise the annual meeting of the Online Freedom Coalition in Tallinn in the spring of 2014.

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt and Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs are participating in the Lennart Meri Conference taking place in Tallinn.
