Foreign Ministry Upcoming Events: 14-20 October

14.10 Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will meet with the Riigikogu’s European affairs commission.

14.10 The Foreign Ministry’s Undersecretary for Europe and Transatlantic Relations Mart Laanemäe will meet with High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Valentin Inzko, who is visiting Tallinn. At the meeting, the current situation and future prospects of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well the role and activity of the Office of the High Representative will be discussed.

14.10 The Foreign Ministry’s Director General of the Political Department Sander Soone will participate in the meeting of political department directors in Bratislava, where discussions will take place about the upcoming high-level meeting about the Eastern Partnership in Vilnius as well as the latest developments in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and Belarus.

15.10 Consuls from the Ministry of Foreign affairs will be delivering lectures to students at the Vändra Gümnaasium and Tallinna Täiskasvanute Gümnaasium on the topic of “Travelling Smartly”. The consuls and students will discuss questions regarding travelling, studying, and working abroad, including how to prepare oneself for the trip of what to do when help is still needed in a foreign country.

16.-17.10 Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will be in Seoul, where he will deliver a speech on cyber security at the international “Seoul Conference on Cyberspace 2013”. Foreign Minister Paet is also scheduled to meet with South Korea’s Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se. Estonia-South Korea relations and regional developments will be discussed. Cyber topics, including the Internet Freedom Conference taking place in Tallinn next year and South Korea’s potential participation in the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence’s collaborative projects, will also be talked about.

17.-18.10 The Foreign Ministry’s Undersecretary for Economic and Development Affairs Väino Reinart will participate in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) international energy security-related conference “Energy Security and Sustainability – The OSCE Perspective” in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

18.10 The ministers of foreign trade of the member states of the European Union will meet in Luxembourg. The ministers will converse about topics related to the association and free trade agreements that will come under discussion at the upcoming high-level meeting about the Eastern Partnership in Vilnius. They also plan to approve the mandate for the European Commission to hold negotiations with China and the ASEAN countries in the area of investment. Additionally, the ministers will prepare for the upcoming WTO ministerial meeting, which will take place in the beginning of December. The Estonian delegation will be headed by Estonia’s Permanent Representative to the European Union Matti Maasikas.

18.10 Consuls from the Ministry of Foreign affairs will be delivering lectures to students at the Õismäe Gümnaasium and Karksi Nuai Gümnaasium on the topic of “Travelling Smartly”. The consuls and students will discuss questions regarding travelling, studying, and working abroad, including how to prepare oneself for the trip of what to do when help is still needed in a foreign country.

Cultural Events Happening Abroad:
15.-16.10 Kristiina Ehin and Silver Sepp will be performing at nights of poetry and music entitled “Every Moment is a Well – Iga Hetk on Kaev” in Washington D.C. and New York. On 15 October, the concert in Washington will take place at the Delegation of the European Union to the United States. On 16 October, Ehin and Sepp will perform and the New York Public Library.

16.-25.10 It will be possible to become acquainted with contemporary Estonian architecture at the European House in London. The exhibition “Conversion in Contemporary Estonian Architecture” will be opened at the European House on 15 October at 18.30.
The exhibition has been assembled and curated by KOKO architects and is supported by the Embassy of Estonia in London, the Estonian Ministry of Culture, and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.

18.-19.10 Tanel Padar & The Sun will perform in Brussels and Luxembourg. On 18 October at 19.00 the band will perform at Brussels’ Botanique concert hall. On October 19, the concert will take place within the framework of the Baltic night official programme of Luxembourg’s CinEast film festival.

22.10 The R.A.A.A.M association’s production “Soolo” will be performed at the United Solo Theatre Festival in New York. On 20 October, the production will be performed at the New York Estonian House.
