Estonia Has New Honorary Consul in Cheltenham

07.11.2013

On 6 November, the ceremonial appointment to office of Estonia’s new honorary consul took place in Cheltenham, West England. Estonia’s new honorary consul is John Kerrison Workman.

According to the Estonian ambassador in London, Aino Lepik von Wirén, the Estonian consulate in Cheltenham has been active already since 1998 and Estonia’s first honorary consul in Cheltenham was John Beevor.

“Honorary consul John Beevor played an important role in creating economic and business contacts between Estonia and the United Kingdom as well as developing cultural ties and aiding citizens,” she noted.

The Estonian ambassador expressed satisfaction that we have found a worthy successor for John Beevor in John Workman, who started this summer. “We are sure that John Workman will successfully contribute to finding new possibilities in terms of export, investment, and personal contacts for Estonian businesses as well as to introducing Estonia and our culture more widely,” added Lepik von Wirén.

The ambassador also noted that Estonia values its honorary consuls and their contributions to helping Estonian citizens and introducing Estonia in the United Kingdom very highly. “Estonia currently has five honorary consulates in the United Kingdom and we are working to make this network even more dense,” she stated.

Estonian honorary consul John Workman confirmed that he hopes to develop economic and cultural relations between Estonia and the United Kingdom and, if necessary, also help Estonians. The honorary consul also noted that, as a lawyer, he has an excellent opportunity to assist Estonian businesses with legal questions as well.

The administrative area of the Cheltenham honorary consulate will be the West England counties of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Bristol, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Hereford, Worcester, Shropshire, Warwickshire, and West Midlands.

The honorary consulate’s address is St. James House, St. James Square, Cheltenham, GL50 3PR.
The honorary consulate can be reached by phone at: +44 1242 248 211 or +44 1242 226 712 and by e-mail at: john.workman@bpe.co.uk.

John Kerrison Workman was born in 1959. He graduated from University College Durham with a degree in law and has worked as a lawyer in different companies for many years. Since 1996 he has worked in Workman BPE Solicitors LLP and since 2005 he is one of the senior partners there. Workman is also an active member of various clubs and charitable organisations. For example, as part of the charitable initiative Children’s Fire and Burns Trust, Estonia’s new honorary consul rode a bicycle along the Northern coast of Estonia from Tallinn to St. Petersburg.
