Foreign Minister Urmas Paet calls on the violence in Kiev to stop immediately and the Ukrainian government and opposition to continue talks

19.02.2014

Foreign Minister Urmas Paet condemned the use of violence and escalation of events in Ukraine, which have resulted in deaths. He called on all parties involved to enter into negotiations to find a peaceful solution to the domestic political crisis. "I call on all parties involved in the conflict in Ukraine to stop the violence immediately,” Paet emphasized. The foreign minister expressed sympathy to the relatives of those killed and injured.

According to Paet, the only way to find a solution is an immediate return to political negotiations, since violence will lead Ukraine into a deep crisis. “A serious escalation of the situation in Kiev and news of victims is extremely alarming. All participants must make a maximum effort and focus on dialogue to emerge from this crisis,” he added.
