23.05.2014

Tomorrow, on May 23, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet will visit Kyiv. Foreign Minister Paet, along with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway Børge Brende and Danish Foreign Minister Martin Lidegaard will meet with the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Foreign Minister Andrii Deshchytsia and Deputy Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman.

The Presidential elections scheduled for Sunday are extremely important in terms of Ukraine’s future, Foreign Minister Urmas Paet said. “Free, democratic and transparent Presidential elections in Ukraine are important for coming out of the crisis and for the further implementation of reforms and building up of a state based on the rule of law," Paet said. “The Ukrainian people must have the opportunity to decide the future of their country through peaceful means,” he added.

Paet said that Estonia fully supports Ukraine's democratic reforms.

Estonia has sent two long-term and six short-term observers to various regions in Ukraine to observe the Presidential elections as part of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) observation mission.

The most recent developments in the country, the security situation in general and the upcoming Presidential elections will be discussed at the meeting with Ukrainian leaders.
