The Foreign Minister in Khurvaleti: Occupied Abkhazia and South Ossetia must remain on the agenda of the international community

23.12.2014

After visiting the administrative boundary line in Khurvaleti, Foreign Minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus confirmed Estonia's support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"The so-called cooperation agreement concluded between Russian and the de facto authorities of Abkhazia is in violation of international law and a step towards the full annexation of Abkhazia," the Foreign Minister said. "This is another example of Russia's aggressive behaviour and unfortunately, confirmation that Russia can no longer be regarded as a partner," she added.

Pentus-Rosimannus underscored the role of the European Union's Monitoring Mission in Georgia as the only international monitoring mission in Georgia contributing to security and control of tensions. "The mission must continue and observers must be ensured access to the occupied territories of Georgia," she stressed.
